Now here’s an idea: Vonage video ads tied to YouTube posts by ZDNet‘s Russell Shaw — I’m not pulling this one out of the ether. Or the Ethernet. The idea is actually hinted at by Matt Wasserlauf, who is CEO of online video ad network Broadband Enterprises. Matt tells Mediaweek’s Mike Shields that “such inventory (referring to ad availabilities) is ideal for less content-phobic direct-marketing brands ‘that are used to late-night TV, [...]
Now I read this today and I thought WHAT!? NO!
Let me tell you why. I personally HATE, HATE, HATE, unskippable ads in front of videos. They just anger me, that I have no way to skip through them, because they specifically are setup to waste my time for some dumb ad I don’t want to view. YouTube users will be up in arms if all of a suddenly annoying 30 second ads will run in front of their 20 second videos.
Now YouTube is a great place for many videos, I must admit I was skeptical before about watching someone make an ass of themselves on there, but its quite enjoyable and some are very creative and unique. I think throwing in ads in front of videos will just degrade the enjoyment of YouTube.
